Cellulite is another term for the dimpled skin that is caused by fatty deposits located just beneath the skin’s surface. Cellulite is most commonly found on skin in the pelvic region, abdomen and lower limbs and normally occurs after a person has reached puberty. In the medical field, cellulite goes by a variety of names including status protrusus cutis. In everyday language, less kind terms such as cottage cheese skin and orange peel syndrome are used.
There are deemed to be a trio of cellulite grades:
Grade 1: No clinical symptoms but anatomical changes can be seen on close, microscopic inspection. Clearly, this is of little consequence to the average person.
Grade 2: Skin shows a level of pastiness and there is a pronounced decrease in the skin’s elasticity.
Grade 3: This is the most obvious sign of cellulite with visible roughness of the skin apparent. In severe cases, the skin resembles an orange peel. Although cellulite occurs in both sexes, it is more common in women because they are the most likely to have certain types of connective tissue and fat that leads to this issue.

Individuals who do not exercise, sit or stand in the same position for long hours or smoke are also more likely to experience greater levels of cellulite.
If you wear underwear that has tight elastic at the top, ditch them and purchase something more comfortable. Tight underwear and tight clothing in general can inhibit blood flow and encourage the development of cellulite.

Instead of waiting for cellulite to cause you problems, take charge of your lifestyle and reduce the chances of being affected by this condition. Even if you are genetically predisposed to develop cellulite, you can decrease its impact on your life by eating low fat foods and plenty of vegetables, getting a reasonable amount of exercise and eliminating cigarettes from your life. Make an effort to reduce stress and wear comfortable clothes instead of tight, blood flow-restricting garments. You can combat cellulite but it will take plenty of effort on your part.
